Music Related Biography
I began playing guitar in my senior year of high school. That makes it about 29
years altogether.
I guess I became a guitarist after hearing David Gilmour's work on Pink Floyd's classic
Dark Side of the Moon album. No other guitarist affected my desire to
play music in the same way.
I cut my teeth playing what was then called "progressive rock," a term reportedly
coined by Roger Waters when asked how he would classify Floyd's music. My early
influences were, of course, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis and Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP).
Now, I find that my tastes run more towards the instrumental and jazz veins. Such artists as
Eric Johnson and Pat Metheny enjoy heavy rotation on my CD player. While instrumental music
remains my passion, I also listen to artists like Seal, Enya and of course, Sting. Who could not
appreciate Sting, right?
Gear
As for gear, I am a dedicated tone freak. I have played Fender Strats since my high school
days. I once owned a Gibson Les Paul but I traded it for for some other gear, the nature of which
escapes me at the moment.
I recently bought myself a Gibson ES-335 having been influenced by notable artists such as
Larry Carlton and Pat Metheny. The 335 offers that warm jazz tone but can also deliver a
blistering hi gain tone when necessary. Versatility in a guitar is important to me.
